Sustainable Clothing Sewing Retreat

  • Sustainable Clothing Sewing Retreat

9am-5pm Saturday 28th September.  (dates to be confirmed)

I’m thrilled to introduce our first Dolly Sustainable Clothing Sewing Retreat! Hosted by my friend and stylish seamstress Diane Portnoi at her beautiful home in Cooksbridge, near Lewes.

The most sustainable clothing is what’s in our wardrobes. We’re facing a climate emergency so we simply can’t afford to throw things away. Mending and repairing is an investment for a greener fashion future. It’s an investment into your clothing connections too. And it’s practical, unique, beautiful, on trend, powerful, mindful – for you and the planet. Broken is beautiful. Mended is mindful.

So join us for a day of:

    - Breathing new life into our clothes

    - Learning how to maintain a sustainable wardrobe

    There'll be:

    • A demonstration on how to darn
    • A demonstration on how to use sashiko stitching to mend and patch
    • Guidance from an expert pattern cutter and seamstresses
    • Professional help to transform, mend and alter your garments

    Meet the team:

Diana Uprichard is the founder of Dolly Clothing. An experienced designer, seamstress and teacher, Diana believes that sewing is nourishment for the soul. A dedicated campaigner for sustainable fashion, Diana leads the Dolly team in awareness-raising campaigns, events and courses. Diana’s vision for a sustainable fashion future is built on her belief that there’s a wealth of power in a tiny needle and thread.

Kirsty Tyler is a highly skilled pattern cutter. She will be on hand during the retreat to offer help and guidance should you need it. Kirsty has a wealth of knowledge about pattern cutting so come along and ask her anything!

Diane Portnoi is our gracious host for the Dolly Sewing Retreat. She’s welcoming us into her chic home, tucked away in a peaceful corner of Cooksbridge, just outside Lewes. Diane herself is an experienced seamstress.

The retreat includes lunch and refreshments for those who can tear themselves away from their sewing.

You are welcome to bring your own sewing machine or use one of Dolly’s. We will have a selection of sustainable fabrics to purchase if you need it, plus all the tools of the trade from scissors to pattern paper to an ironing station.

Parking is free and Cooksbridge is well served by public transport.
