Wild sewing in wild Wales.

I've been wild sewing in wild Wales at my other sew studio, the caravan!

When I'm doing my repair work it doesn't feel like work, it's what I'd be doing anyway because I love the way it makes me feel. My mind goes quiet when before my head was full of chatter. I get absorbed, utterly!

 The gentle systematic setting up for a sewing session. Anticipation and thoughtfulness as I think through where to start.

All my senses come into play in the here and now. Looking and seeking stitches, unpicking and stitching new ones. Watching the stitch pattern as it appears from the sewing machine or from my needle.

I find it mesmerising.

In these moments nothing else matters. I love the sound of the machine, clicks and snips from scissors and needles. The feel of the cloth and thread between my fingers.

The cognitive workout MUST have a positive impact on my brain - feels like it! (any research you know of, please let me know!) Problem solving a mend - which approach to take. The determination when it doesn’t quite work out to try again. Then the immense sense of fulfilment and satisfaction when a worn out piece looks new and quirky and unique, a work of art and craft.

It truly is a meditation and the result is profound - one garment after another that will bring joy, comfortable wearing and inspiration. Wearing clothes with no impact on the planet and massive positive impact on people.

Then I go for a walk and plan my next stitch!
